Flagstaff is a great city to explore in northern Arizona. This is a region that is going to offer great views of many mountains, with the desert, and even some pine forests. You will get stunning views and a great area to explore. And while you might be used to associating Arizona with hot weather and the desert heat, it is also known for getting plenty of snow. Particularly in the northern region, near Flagstaff, this is regarded as one of the snowiest places in the entire country to experience. Here is a list of a few things to check out when you are in Flagstaff, Arizona.
# 10 – Walnut Canyon National Monument
The Walnut Canyon National Monument is a national monument that brings many tourists out to come and see it. You can get some great pictures and get a good walk in too. So don’t forget to bring some good walking shoes. There is a canyon passing and lots of room to explore here. If you want to see some great sights and stay outdoors for the day then head over to the Walnut Canyon National Monument.
# 9 – Arizona Snowbowl
If you are in Flagstaff, Arizona when there happens to be snow then you might want to pay a visit to the Arizona Snowbowl. The legendary Arizona Snowbowl has been in operation since 1938 (the mountains have been there longer……sorry, bad joke.) The Arizona Snowbowl has an incredible view of the Adassiz Peak. Its completely stunning. There are about 700 skying areas available for skiers of all abilities. They also have classes for beginners. The vertical drop at the mountain is 2300 feet. This is located right outside downtown Flagstaff.
# 8 – Sunset Crater
This is truly a stunning sight to see in Flagstaff, Arizona. The Sunset Crater is a cinder cone that will make for an amazing backdrop for some photos. This special sight is located in the area and it rests within the Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument. This is told to be the youngest in a line of volcanoes that are all collectively associated to the San Francisco Peaks that are not too far away. If you want a spectacular sight then don’t miss the Sunset Crater.
# 7 – Lowell Observatory
Get the chance to see some stars and make a visit to the Flagstaff Lowell Observatory. This is where you can get a chance to see some great astronomical history. This sight was established back in 1894 and is known to be one of the oldest of its kind in the entire country. If you love space and want to learn a little history too, this would make a great visit while in Flagstaff.
# 6 – Museum of Northern Arizona
Head over to the Museum of Northern Arizona and get a chance to take in some history while you are on vacation. This is where you can see artifacts and beautiful scenery. It is a great place to take the family for the day, especially if you are with children. They are also open every day of the week which makes it easily accessible while on vacation. If you love science then you will probably love a visit to the Museum of Northern Arizona.
# 5 – Coconino National Forest
The Coconino National Forest is in the region of Flagstaff, Arizona. This is going to be one of the most beautiful places that you will be able to explore in the region. Bring some good walking shoes and your water, try to go with a walking partner if you can. You don’t want to get lost here. This is a beautiful area that is easy to keep walking and exploring. The area is well maintained and overall the forest is more than 1.856 million acres. You can see flatlands here, apline tundra, and ancient volcanic peaks. There are many things to see here and it is such a large area that you could easily spend the entire day here looking around at the different sights there are in the area. The Coconino National Forest is a perfect choice for a top destination to visit while in Flagstaff.
# 4 – Flagstaff Extreme Adventure Course
If you want fun and a challenge while you are in Flagstaff then go on over to the Flagstaff Extreme Adventure Course. This is where you can go with your kids or your friends and have some fun. The Flagstaff Extreme Adventure Course is fun for everyone and offers challenging obstacle courses to do in the park. It’s a great place to go and spend time with your loved ones, especially when the weather is nice out.
# 3 – Wupatki National Monument
This region is near Flagstaff and is often visited by many tourists. The Wupatki National Monument is a well-known Native American archaeological site. You can see great views here especially when the sun is rising or setting. If you want to see something unique, with a bit of history, then the Wupatki National Monument is worth a visit while in Flagstaff, Arizona. It might not be for everyone but if you want to get outside and do something different then this is it.
# 2 – Lava River Cave
The Lava River Cave is known to be a place that will truly make for some great photos to share with your loved ones back home. The Lava River Cave is a popular area that people love to go to because they enjoy exploring the caves and the surrounding area. This is the longest cave that is known to be in the Arizona region. It was discovered back many years ago in 1915. If you want to see something cool and different while in Flagstaff, Arizona then you might want to consider what the Lava River Cave has to offer. It’s also only about a 30 minute drive from downtown Flagstaff.

Don’t miss touring the town itself and this means getting to know Downtown Flagstaff. This is where you can find food, shopping, and people. There is a rich history and charm to the Flagstaff region and you can really get a sense of the uniqueness of the area by visiting the Downtown Flagstaff. Whether by yourself, with friends, or family, the Downtown Flagstaff is a great area to explore first.You will get the chance to find something great to eat for lunch with your group and then walk around town to get some pictures and see what the area has to offer.
