If you’re looking to score a hit TV show, it doesn’t hurt to have one of the most charismatic actors in Gary Oldman as the star, while also utilizing one of rock and roll’s most legendary musical artists singing the theme song. That’s exactly what Apple TV+ has done with their new television show entitled Slow Horse. Mick Jagger teamed up with composer Daniel Pemberton to write the show’s theme song entitled “Strange Game.” As a film music composer, Daniel Pemberton has been nominated multiple times for Golden Globe and Academy Awards. He has scored the music for such films as Molly’s Game, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., Yesterday, All the Money in the World, and many others including the much loved animated Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
The paring of Daniel Pemberton composing the music and Mick Jagger writing the lyrics resulted in an extraordinary song that balances a fine line between the genres of film-noir soundtrack music and psychedelic British Blues. It’s a wonderful song that is fueled by that iconic voice that is pretty much unlike any other voice in rock and roll history. It makes one feel that we never want to be without that voice and personality of Mick Jagger delivering new songs no matter what avenue he chooses to release them in.
It seems that Mick Jagger had received a call from Daniel Pemberton asking if he was interested in collaborating on the song. Mick Jagger has long had a fascination with film and television having acted himself in multiple films including his role as Vacendak who was a villain turned a good guy in the 1992 film Freejack. He recently appeared in the 2019 motion picture The Burnt Orange Heresy playing a character named Jack Cassady. Of course, Mick Jagger has appeared in multiple films as himself and countless documentaries about the Rolling Stones as well as all their concert films. Most notable were Gimme Shelter and Martin Scorsese’s brilliant concert film Shine A Light.
Daniel Pemberton found himself working with one of the most famous rock and roll stars in classic rock history. Daniel Pemberton released a statement saying “Working with Mick Jagger has been one of the most exciting collaborations of my professional career. I think we have managed to create an incredibly unique and original title theme and I cannot wait for the rest of the world to hear it.”
The British television series is based on a collection of novels written by author Mick Herron. The story about a supposed washed-up intelligent agent is a story that we have seen before. Nonetheless, anything starring Gary Oldman is on our list to watch. The Apple TV+ series premiers on April 1, 2022. The second season has already been filmed. That’s probably good news for anyone who finds it compelling viewing.
Rolling Stones fans especially in the UK will be seeing more of Mick Jagger and The Rolling Stones as the band is set to celebrate their 60s anniversary with a series of concerts this summer in the United Kingdon in both London and Liverpool. In addition, the band will be playing shows in Spain, Italy, France, Austria, Germany, and Belgium. Work on a new Rolling Stones album is also to continue with Steve Jordan in the drummer’s chair filling in for the late Charlie Watts.
