Let me put this out there right from the start, I don’t like writing bad reviews. The last thing I ever want to do is write a review that may hurt somebody’s business. People work hard, and many times bad reviews are unfair. Someone has one bad experience and they write a devastating review that really hurts the company or business. I very rarely write bad reviews because of that. However, it’s also important to us as a review website to write honest reviews and to look out for our readers. This review looks at the Days Inn Hotel in Plattsburgh New York. This is a hotel that I stayed at numerous times.
The first time I stayed there I did not have a good experience and wanted to really write a bad review but held back figuring I would give the place another chance. I did give it a few more chances. Sadly, every time I have stayed there it’s gotten worse. Plattsburgh is a city in Upstate New York that seems to have been hit pretty hard by the pandemic in certain parts where local businesses once thrived. However, it is also an international city where many people travel from Canada to the United States. It also hosts an international airport. On top of that, there is SUNY Plattsburgh State College. This is a city where a lot of people stay in hotels. This is also a city that has many Hotel choices. We highly recommend that Days Inn not be one of them. Here’s why………
Days Inn Plattsburgh Hotel Review Check-In:
The first time I checked into the Plattsburgh Days Inn Hotel in the middle of the afternoon I was met by a young bearded man who seemed to not understand the meaning of the word friendliness. Now everyone does not always like their jobs, but hey if you’re a hotel clerk who is the first person people meet upon arriving, you have to at least try to fake it. Everyone can have a bad day, but every time I have checked into this hotel I have been met by the same exact guy and he is always been rude to me. However, on the multiple times I have checked out, the young woman in the morning behind the desk has always been extremely friendly and kind. It always seems to be the same people. I have never seen more than one person at a time behind the greeting desk in this hotel. Additionally, there have been many times when I went to the desk and there was nobody there.
Days Inn Statistics
While I am not sure when this hotel was first built, it does seem to be one of the older hotels in the area. About five years ago, I stayed at the Days Inn when it was actually a Holiday Inn. It’s been a Days Inn now for about three or four years. The hotel consists of four floors. There are 104 rooms in this hotel. There are many different room sizes and there are a few that host a jacuzzi. I have stayed on the first and second floors. I always ask to stay on the first floor for two big reasons. Here they are.
The Days Inn elevator is one of the smallest and dirtiest elevators I have ever ridden in. Of course, in New York City there are many hotels that utilize much smaller elevators but that’s the city. Nonetheless, in a suburban hotel like the one in Plattsburgh that hosts four floors and over 100 rooms, the mere fact that there is only one elevator and it is small is pretty much a nuisance. What’s even more annoying is that the elevator is often out of order. There’s nothing worse than traveling many hours carrying lots of luggage and having to carry them up a couple of flights of stairs.
Days Inn Plattsburgh – The Dreaded Second Floor
The first time that I was given a room on the second floor in the Days Inn Hotel in Plattsburgh I noticed a horrible smell when I first got off the elevator. If anyone’s ever had a raccoon or any other animal die in their attic or get stuck inside the walls, that’s the exact smell that I noticed. I figured that’s what it was since Plattsburgh can get to like 10 below zero sometimes in the winter and maybe something died somewhere. However a few months later when I was placed on the second floor again, there it was, that same deathly smell.

Days Inn Plattsburgh The Rooms Size
On the positive side, the rooms at the Days Inn in Plattsburgh are pretty big. There’s plenty of space between both beds and there is plenty of space between the bed and the window. It’s a really nice size room. All of the rooms I’ve stayed at at this hotel are nice and big. The bathrooms are also average size, not that large, but not too small and nothing to complain about.

Days Inn Plattsburgh Room Cleanliness
Probably one of the most important features of a hotel is their attention to cleanliness. During the pandemic this became even more important, in fact, it was pretty much a matter of life and death. The workers who clean the rooms at the hotel do a really good job. I’m sure they have to deal with a lot of very rude and dirty people who leave disasters behind. The bathrooms have always been clean, the sheets are always clean, the floors swept. They do a nice job in changing the rooms over and making them clean. However, what’s out of their control is that some of the furniture in the rooms is pretty old.
When furniture becomes old, stains that are impossible to clean are left behind. As someone who does reviews for a living, desk chairs are pretty important to me in a hotel. Hands down, the Days Inn in Plattsburgh has the worst desk chairs I have ever run into. These chairs look like they came from the Civil War. They are stained, worn out, and worst of all incredibly uncomfortable. If there was one reason I wouldn’t want to stay at this hotel it would be because the chairs in the rooms stink. If you’re someone who works out of a hotel room, chairs are pretty important.

Of course, many people always ask about the beds. I’ve never had a problem with the beds at the Days Inn. They are comfortable. Yet, if you looking for them to be turned over every day, you will have to special request it, This hotel does not offer daily room cleaning. I ran out of towels after two days and had to request some clean towels, which the very sweet hotel maid brought to me a few hours later. To be fair, in recent years, many hotels have stopped offering daily room cleanings.
Amenities: Game Room and Pool
Many of the hotels in Plattsburgh offer some form of game room. Many of them are pretty impressive with the Comfort Inn being by far the best. Days Inn at Plattsburgh does a nice job in this area. Their game room is spacious and offers a wide assortment of games. As far as the pool goes, I can’t comment on that because I refuse to use hotel pools, I like my health.

Breakfast
Most hotels in Plattsburgh offer free breakfast or for a small charge. If breakfast is not free or at least included in the room charge then I wouldn’t pay extra for it. That goes for all hotels in Plattsburgh and pretty much hotels everywhere. Free breakfast in hotels at least in Plattsburgh are all very similar. Some are better than others. If you’re someone who likes omelets and fruit, well then none of that is offered at the Days Inn breakfast. As far as hot foods go, the Days Inn breakfast always offers scrambled eggs and usually sausage. Once in a while, I’ve seen hash, but it’s mostly just scrambled eggs and sausage. I have really never seen them offer bacon. Of course, there is a mix of cereals and bagels which you definitely must toast because you don’t want to break a tooth. Chances are pretty high that your bagel will also get stuck in that rotating toaster. Happens to me all the time. They have a waffle maker which is not bad. The coffee is good. The juices are completely watered down. Their breakfast is average among all the hotels.
Location
One of the first reasons I stayed at the Days Inn in Plattsburgh was because of the location. Many Plattsburgh Hotels are located within a mile of each other in the heart of Plattsburgh. However what I liked about the Days Inn is that in the same parking lot is also a Chick-fil-A, Panera and a Five Guys. All you have to do is just walk out the door and walk across the parking lot to any one of those three legendary fast food places. In the dead of winter, when you don’t feel like driving and risking your life on the icy Plattsburgh streets, it’s nice to be able to walk to one of those places.
Conclusion:
I am sure that the Days Inn has had its share of complaints from its customers. They are probably pretty much aware of their shortcomings. It’s probably one of the reasons that the hotel offers one of the best nightly rates in the city. There are other hotels that are cheaper, but the Days Inn does offer a really nice rate. If price is most important to you, then the Days Inn is a pretty good choice as long as you can deal with some of the issues that I’ve showcased here in this article. However, if you’re looking for a more upscale overnight stay or even just a respectful stay, there are many much better hotels in the area.
