If you are one of the few people on this planet that have not tasted Chick-fil-A’s Spicy Chicken Sandwich then this review is for you. I am one of those people who actually are not a really big fan of spicy food. Sure, I will sprinkle a litter pepper on my eggs in the morning but that’s just about it. As much as I am not too fond of spicy foods, my two sons love spicy foods. In fact, my older son is one of those young men that like to buy bottles of spicy sauces that will start a house fire. He is also a practical joker who once poured a few drops of Ghost Pepper on a chicken wing that I was eating that pretty much almost killed me. It took about two hours before the pain in my mouth finally went away. I bring up these situations because they are a bit relevant to my review of Chick-fil-A’s Spicy Chicken Sandwich.
I am a fan of Chick-fil-A. I love their chicken nuggets which to me taste like homemade chicken nuggets. I love their diet frozen lemonade which is probably the most impressive diet drink I have ever tasted. Of course, I am a big fan of their regular chicken sandwich both the grilled and fried versions. I also must remember to always order mayonnaise with those chicken sandwiches because they do come dry and as wonderful as their chicken is, there’s nothing worse than a dry chicken sandwich. Before today, I never tasted their spicy chicken sandwich, because as I said before, I am not a fan of spicy food. Yet as we all know and experienced, sometimes they screw up in the drive-through.
Earlier this afternoon I took a drive to Chick-fil-A to get a basic chicken sandwich deluxe. That’s pretty much just a basic chicken cutlet with lettuce and tomato on a roll. My son asked me to pick up a spicy chicken sandwich for him. I got home and took the two sandwiches out of the bag and handed the spicy chicken sandwich labeled bag to my son and took the basic chicken sandwich deluxe for myself.
When I opened the bag I was pretty disappointed to see that they forgot to put the lettuce and tomato on my chicken sandwich. I took my first bite into what was supposed to be my chicken sandwich deluxe and I noticed that it was a little bit spicy. I didn’t put much thought into it until I took a second bite and my mouth was starting to get a little bit hot. It was at this moment when I realized that they had put the sandwiches in the wrong wrappers and my son got my chicken deluxe and I got his spicy chicken sandwich.
Have you ever had that one moment in time where you were starving and just before you took a bite into your sandwich, you dropped it on the floor. However, hunger takes over for reason and after wiping it off you eat it anyway. Well, since I had already taken a few bites out of the spicy chicken sandwich and I was pretty hungry, I decided I might as well just finish it. It wasn’t easy for someone who doesn’t like spicy food. However, I have to admit it did taste really good. It really wasn’t that spicy but it was spicy enough that I drank my whole frozen lemonade and a bottle of water at the same time I was eating the sandwich.
There was nothing else on the sandwich besides just a few pickles and the breaded piece of chicken and the bun. For a company that makes such a great piece of chicken, they should begin to consider adding more to these sandwiches like onions, mushrooms etc…. Nonetheless, I have to admit that their spicy chicken sandwich was really good. It wasn’t overwhelming in that you could not eat it, but it had just enough kick added to it to call it a spicy sandwich. If you are a person like my son who loves spicy food, it’s probably not spicy enough. Yet for those in between, it’s just right.
