It’s amazing how many women and even men have no idea what a facial is. Thye have heard the expression many times but are usually too embarrassed to ask what defines a facial and how it’s done. I had a piano student who would show up at her lessons every week always smiling and saying that she felt so good because she just had a facial. I never understood what she was talking about, but I understood one thing, she was very happy and it somehow seemed to install a sense of confidence in herself. I also noticed that her skin seemed to shine in a way that just seemed to define a healthiness, that frankly, I was jealous of.
Here I was her teacher, and yet, she was teaching me an even more important lesson in looking good and feeling great. I decided to look into getting a facial myself. After years of enjoying monthly and sometimes weekly facials I have diced to share my experiences and all I have learned from my first-hand experiences and the research have done in making sure I have always gotten the best facials for my skin available.
# 1- Know What You’re Getting Into.
In going back to the opening paragraph, before you get a facial, you should know exactly what getting a facial involves. Not everyone enjoys a facial as everyone does react to it a little differently. However, for the most part, there is no pain involved in getting a facial, but everyone has different sensitives to touch. Some people embrace the massage of their facial skin while others can complain of some discomfort. Knowing this beforehand is key to relaxing before you get your first facial. Before we get into exactly what happens, please read the next part that is so vitally important to have a safe and enjoyable experience.
# Only Go To A Licensed Pro
Before you make your first visit to get a facial, make sure that you are being seen and taken care of by a licensed professional. Those professionals who perform facials and are licensed are called estheticians. While they are not doctors or nurses they are licensed professionals who have been trained and have also passed exams and gained certification that allows them to work on the upper epidermis of the skin. If you are unsure if they are licensed, simply ask where their license is hanging on the wall as most states require these professionals to hang their licenses in full view.
# The Facial
The start of the facial can begin at home with gentle face washing. Make sure to remove all your makeup and gently wash your face with light soap. The professionals at the spa you visit for the facial will also offer to cleanse your face before the entire process begins.
After your skin has been mildly cleaned the exfoliating process will begin. This is the step in which dead skin cells are removed from the skin. There are two different ways in which this process is utilized. One is chemical and the other is mechanical. In the mechanical process, the dead skin cells are removed either by an Exfoliating Brush, Exfoliating scrub, Exfoliating glove, or Exfoliation sponge. The individual’s skin is taken into consideration when picking which tool and technique to use when removing the dead skin cells. In the chemical process, the use of chemical that contains Alpha-hydroxy acids or Beta-hydroxy acids. While the word acid may seem a bit scary, these are actually gentle chemicals that help break down and shed the dead skin cells.
After the Exfoliating Process is complete, the use of gentle steam may be used to help open up the pores through the skin. This is very important because it makes it easier to get rid of some deeper dirt that can cause blackheads. and other issues. Anything that is wedged in the upper layers will be loosened up by the easing of the surrounding skin during the two previous processes.
The facial will come to an end usually with a nice warm towel laid and placed gently onto the face for a relaxing cooldown period.
The Social Aspect of A Facial
While many women and some men attend facial appointments by themselves, the process of getting a facial can be a social process, the way a trip to the beauty salon can be. Many places where facials are done offer refreshments from coffee to sparkling juices and drinks and more. Many women will actually plan a facial party at a saloon or even have a specialist come to their homes. It’s a fun thing to do while also making for a fun day or night out with the girls. A facial will make you feel better about yourself while getting rid of toxins in the skin., At the same time, facials improve blood flow that will help important nutrients make their way to the skin. That is why you need a facial.
