When you first walk into The Gallows Pub located in the South End of Boston, you will notice a very different atmosphere. The pub which is dimly lit by yellow lights is both eerie and romantic at the same time. While this pub has only been around since 2010, the area in which it resides has a very violent past. In the 17th and much of the 18th-century criminals were hanged in the street and murders in the area were not uncommon.
Fast forward to modern times the South End area of Boston is now a more peaceful place but it seems the past can never be forgotten. The Gallows Pub, appropriately named is home to not only some of the best food in the city but also to a few local ghosts. The restaurant staff has some pretty wild stories of being harassed by an unknown force. Staff members have reported objects flying off tables, and a feeling like they are always being watched. Most of the activity seems to occur late at night when the restaurant has already closed for business. However, there have been no reports of guests being attacked.
While some come to the pub in hopes to catch a glimpse of a ghost, others come for the amazing cuisine. The Gallows features common bar foods like Scotch Eggs, they also have some hard to find dishes. One of the most popular foods on the menu is Poutine, a cheesy plate of fries that comes with its own gravy. Poutine is a traditional dish that is more commonly found just north of the border in Canada.
Pub-style food is not the only thing you can find here at The Gallows. In fact, they have a very diverse menu with lots of amazing items. If you are really hungry, you may want to try their grilled pork ribs that are prepared with red pepper barbecue sauce and drizzled with lime. For dessert, a peach shortcake is on the menu as well as a dish they call Stoner’s Delight. This extravagant dessert comes with peanut butter mousse, chocolate ganache, banana, and bruleed fluff.
